Why Anglican?
If you worship with us, you may notice that Anglicanism has a distinctive feel. You may wonder, “why be an Anglican church?” Fair question! In fact, we do not feel the need to make “Anglicans.” But we think it’s a helpful, faithful way to make disciples of Jesus. Here are a few reasons why:
Historic
The Christian faith is bigger than any single generation or culture. It is something that is received, handed down from the faithful who preceded us. We value a historical expression of Christianity because it guards against the fads and trends of the present moment.
Embodied
Anglican practice is “sacramental,” meaning we look for God’s holy activity in created things, like the elements of the communion meal. In a world that is increasingly digital and disembodied, we value using all parts of our self—mind, heart, soul, and strength—in our formation.
Reliable
Anglicanism places a premium on the value of seasonality in our formation. Whether it is Daily Prayer, weekly Eucharist, or the changes of the Church Calendar, there is a blend of the predictable and new to keep us growing.
Sustainable
We long to follow Jesus in our everyday lives, not just preserve old ways of doing things. We think that a rhythmic way of following, especially in our congregational Rule of Life, promotes a discipleship that carries us through the varied changes of our lives.
